Artist's Comments
The title of this comes from a few different sources. This is a portrait someone I know from starmen.net/irc channel #radiopsi, his name being CarbonDog. I couldn't have the word "carbon" without "copy" being in there (since this is a copy of a picture I have of him. While doing it, I couldn't also help but be reminded of some of the figures from the Northern Renaissance, so I threw "elder" at the end.
The original photograph wasn't this extreme in terms of lighting. I tweaked it a lot, and got it to just how I wanted it. He actually has a goatee going on, but because of the exteme light/dark contrast, it comes off as this beard (the goatee melds into the black shirt). The gist of it: what CarbonDog would look like if he had a beard ^^ Oh, seems I'm channeling a bit of =NutExtrordinaire. She does these intense deep portraits all the time. Medium: 5B pencil on paper Time: 1-1/2hrs Made for the "Art For Arts Sake" contest [link] in addition for my friend CarbonDog. |
